Vray sketchup light settings how to#
So, in this guide we’ll be focusing on how to light up a model with every single lighting object VRay has to offer. In order to produce a good design render, one of the main skills you need is being able to add good lighting to your space. Your materials and objects will look weird not to mention all the weird shadows and highlight burns your final image will suffer from. You can’t render with bad lighting either. These are the 4 main lights I’ll be focusing on in this tutorial. In Vray, there are 4 types of lights that are most commonly used rectangle light, spot light, omni light, and dome light. I’m using the same scene from the Daylight render ( linked here), but with added light fixtures. I already made a video on lighting up a night scene using ambient light which is perfect if you’re looking for a moody render ( Linked here), but this time we’re aiming for a bright and well lit interior.

Using Dome light setting, the lights come from HDRI map as direct light, and all kinds of effects like shadows, reflection, etc... will be apparent.Since the video before this one was about lighting up a scene using daylight or Sunlight, it only makes sense if I made this video on lighting up a scene at night. This can be illustrated in test render sample (see image 2.0/ Setting 2.1.B and Setting 2.2.B). The shadow in Dome light+ HDRI setting appears to be smoother than Vray sun setting. Follow the parameters set-up I made for this test render experiment (See image 2.1 Dome light Setting). To change the parameters for Dome light follow the procedures: under ‘Vray Asset Editor’> go to ‘Lights’> click the Vray Dome light> under Light dome, you can see two main parameters (Main and Options). In order to set-up the Dome light: click the Dome light icon and place it in your SketchUp scene. Thus, optimizing the Dome light settings is important in order to produce a suitable environment in relation to HDRI map. Using Vray for SketchUp, when loading a Dome light+ HDRI in default setting, the render result will be darker in nature (See image 2.0/ Setting 2.1.A).
